Embellished Holiday Coat
Dressing in wintertime can either be a chance to have fun and experiment, or just a stressful blur of layering. A lot of people think that they need to forgo aesthetics for practicality when it gets cold, but with the right winter staples you can manage both.
Right now i think a good rule of thumb is to invest in 3 winter coats: The Down, The Everyday/Classic and The Statement Coat. All three should keep you warm, but the Down should be trusted as your heavy duty. The Classic (typically a peacoat/cocoon/wrap) is your all-around, polished, goes-with-anything piece (usually in a neutral black, navy, dark green, dark red, camel.) The Statement is your special occasions, "don't feel like putting much effort into whatevers inside this coat" piece.
Depending on your own personal style, you can invest more into one category. I only have one Down coat because i prefer to invest more in Statements, like this beauty from Preen. I just slipped on pants, a simple navy sweater and relied on this Coat to add some color to this gloomy day. I could've paired the coat with black booties, but i wanted to complement the vibrancy of the coat with some more *POP*. There are just some days when you want a little more eye candy in your look.
