Christmas Eve | Happy Style
Merry Christmas Eve! Today was quite rainy in NYC and the wind had a bit of a bite to it so i dressed for warmth and comfort. Two of the pieces i'm sporting today are a bit tattered, but they're my favorites and the most well traveled of anything in my closet. These ripped Madewell jeans and this Givenchy Antigona Satchel have been taken out at least 100 times, i'd say. The bag has lost it's structure a little, but that's because i kind of threw it around the first year i got it, taking it out in the rain without an umbrella, leaving it on some questionable floors, stuffing it until the leather looks like it's about to explode...
I'm an advocate of taking care of investment pieces, but i also think it's important to enjoy them and not be afraid to take them on adventures. There will always be more shoes, more bags, more everything to fall in love with each season, each year, and just as in life, you have to enjoy things in the moment instead of worrying about how long you can hold onto or preserve something.
As the new year rounds the bend i've been finding myself applying this mindset to more and more of my material items. Not to say that i'm going to purposefully throw my things around... but if i paid more than i should've for a pair of shoes, i want to use that as a license to wear them EXTRA happily instead of wearing them with a heavy heart, always stressed about ruining them.
I know many may disagree with me, especially when it comes to uber pricey pieces... but i think that at the end of the day it's about finding a middleground between overly paranoid and carelessly lazy. I'm all for moisturizing and shining your leather goods and not wearing suede in the rain, but great pieces should escort you through life sans TOO much maintenance anxiety. Life's too short to get in a pickle over spaghetti sauce splattering on your expensive white blouse, no?
