Pulling from Mama's Closet
This past weekend my mom surprised me with the loveliest of gifts - one of her most treasured fur coats. It's sheared mink with a beautiful double lapel collar, flattering waist tie and my favorite details - subtle jewel and green undertones in the fur. I recently made a promise to myself to never again buy furs unless they're vintage and/or being resold/consigned - and never again directly from a company that produces them. So this coat was accepted with a little more ease of conscience, knowing that it was made decades ago and that taking it would not be contributing money to further the current industry.
On a less controversial note, I love seeing my mom's outfit pairings! She loves colors and textures so her looks are always very vibrant and mixed media with the elegant touch of pearls or one of her many, many, many silk printed handkerchiefs. We have very different body types so even when i came of age to wear her tweed skirt suits and slacks, i was never really able to borrow her clothing or share her much-too-small kitten heels.
Being able to finally wear something of my mother's like this is super exciting for me! I certainly took a more modern approach to styling this coat - jeans, heels, a cashmere mustard sweater, simple structured crocodile box bag, and my new favorite cat eye sunglasses! But this look was Mama Park approved!
